e-Learning Advisor – Technical Infrastucture

I’m one of two Technical advisor’s in the RSC Wales team. I’m based at Swansea University.

I’m responsible for providing technical assistance to Further Education providers in Wales (mainly in the South with my colleague Hefin looking after the North and Mid). This support involves providing assistance to them on managing their network infrastructure and other associated technologies. For a number of colleges we manage their externally facing Mail and DNS Servers. Increasingly this involves providing guidance on running learning environement such as Moodle.

I also manage an ever increasing number of systems for RSC Wales (our team blogs server being one of them!), as well as a few systems we host for other organisations.

My areas of expertise/interest.

• Linux (Gentoo preferably!)
• Solaris (9+10 – prefer Linux!)
• Networking (Cisco as well as Linux/Unix),
• Network Monitoring (Cacti)
• Server Virtualisation (VMware)
• Mail (Exim) and DNS (Bind)
