This is great Leia... thank you.

I don't really think that many teachers would throw their learners into the deep end with blogs and expect them to get on with it ... but I do think that in some cases it is expected that because you can do (a) and like (b) (write and like technology) you can do (c) (blog about tech) without any help. I can drive and like Formula One racing ... but there's no way I could drive a Formula One racing car without a lot of help :-)

Edublogs has some good stuff (http://theedublogger.edublogs.org/).

When I start my adul learners off on blogging I give them a writing frame based on the suggestions from an English teacher blog at: http://sheehy.edublogs.org/2007/09/06/blog-whats-a-blog/

Normally flags up any potential concerns, so they can be addressed.

Hi Helen,

I read with interest your article on hand held technology for learning. I'm just getting into technology enhanced teaching within HE (I'm a Senior Lecturer atthe University of Glamorgan) and am fascinated to join others in using the technolgy more in my lectures.

Are you working in this area too? If so, what are you doing? Are there any good resources that you could point me towards? Finally, I'd be more than happy ot collaborate if/when appropriate.

Best wishes,

Trevor (tprice@glam.ac.uk)

Although it is not new, apparently, I have recenly seen (no dount due to Christmas advertising) a product called Leapster2. This is a toy aimed at 4-10 year olds. But it LOOKS like a PSP - at least to my eyes. And, superficially, it plays similar looking games.

This got me wondering about which is the tail and which is the dog? Is the product designed to look like a popular game platform so that kids will be kken to use it and so learn? Or... is this a game designed to get kids used to and comfortable with this type of equipment so that they will easily transition to PSPs (Which would imply that Sony has some role in the development- probably not likely!)

In other words, I suspect that learning technology is doing exactly what you are suggesting - keeping up rather than being left behind!
