RSCs – Stimulating and Supporting Innovation in Learning

Lis ParcellWelcome!

Welcome to the new RSC Wales Higher Education blog!

The idea is that it will complement our existing sources of information such as our website, Moodle and our various JISCmail lists. By its nature it will be a perpetual work in progress, and I hope it will evolve to meet the changing needs of our customers in Higher Education, both in universities and colleges.

Most of the postings you’ll see on this blog are going to be from me, Lis Parcell, in my role as Higher Education Coordinator for the RSC Wales team, but I hope there’ll be the occasional posting from my RSC team colleagues. In addition I hope that readers of the blog (I hope there will be some!) will want to make comments on topics that interest them, so we can make it as interesting as possible.

Before I head off to gather some interesting snippets for the next few entries, I’ll leave you with something beautiful to look at. Last week I was on Lundy Island working on a project with the BTCV (basically slashing and burning rhododendrons to stop them taking over the native wildlife). Unfortunately my digital camera decided to give up the ghost the day before we set sail but thanks to Flickr and the willingness of others to share their images, I can still give you a flavour.

This image shows a view of Lundy’s Atlantic-facing West coast, where we saw a number of seals as well as wild goats and sheep balanced on the sheer cliffs. Thanks to “hirez” for the image!

If I manage to get any decent photos off my mobile I may embellish future entries with some pictures of my own. For info on how you can do clever things with mobile phones in education, see my colleague Justin’s blog entry on a recent mobile learning conference.
